I read this book years ago and re-read it recently in my research into ancient gods and idolatry. However, it is really an application of ancient idolatry to the modern day and especially in the West, where we are mesmerised by the ideologies of Revolution, Nation, Material Prosperity and Guaranteed Security.

He explains the 'process' of idolatry and its very great dangers.

He makes many interesting comments, but what stuck in my mind were his comments about 'the Welfare state'.

I recommend this book to anyone interested in idolatry from a biblical and prophetic perspective.
