I think this is a really fascinating story: the Vatican builds a very, very large Observatory to study something approaching the Earth and they call the Observatory, Lucifer!
Now, there are, I would say, a number of ways of interpreting this.
Lucifer means 'light bringer' in Latin and is a name for Venus, the planet that is seen before the dawn - it is a sign that the morning is coming.
It is also a name used for Satan, the devil.
However, the Lord Jesus Christ is called the Morning Star (another name for Venus, the light bringer). Jesus is the 'Light of the World'.
So, the name Lucifer could refer to Jesus, but it seems a poor choice of name really, because most people think of the devil when they think of 'Lucifer'. There's a lot that could be said about this, but I will hold back at the moment. Read the book. It's fascinating. Oh, perhaps I should mention that it's all connected with rumours that 'aliens' are on their way to Earth and the Vatican wants to control 'First Contact'. Yes, really (perhaps)!
