What a story! Written by an amazing historian - G M Trevelyan O.M., Former Master of Trinity College, Cambridge

One day I will explain how I came to read various history books by George Trevelyan (thank you Professor J.R. Jones) , but today I want to bring his 'England Under Queen Anne - A Trilogy' to your attention.

Does it sound dry? It's not. Volume 1 (Blenheim) is exciting and addictive! It's an amazing book.

The pictures below are the front and back of the dust cover of Volume 2 (Ramillies and the Union with Scotland). I'm up to page 288, as of today (21 October 2026).

This is wonderful stuff.

In the SundayTimes, Arthur Bryant (another famous Historian) calls this Trilogy a 'masterpiece' and wrote, "It is the supreme work of a master of his craft.

The Times wrote that, "The whole work, it seems certain, will take its place among the classics of English historical writing..."

The Manchester Guardian also called it a 'masterpiece'!

It is and deserves to be widely read by all and especially by the English and the Scots.
